Sponsored Fitness Fun for Mary's Meals
MARY'S MEALS UPDATE!!!
SO FAR WE HAVE RAISED £500.62!!! WHEN THE GOVERNMENT HAVE DOUBLED THIS UP WE WILL HAVE RAISED £1,001.24 - THIS WILL GIVE 82 POOR CHILDREN A SCHOOL MEAL FOR A WHOLE YEAR!
As part of our duties as members of the Pupil Chaplaincy Team, we are going to try and raise some money for the charity Mary’s Meals. This charity works with the world’s poorest communities to set up volunteer-run school feeding programmes. By providing a nutritious daily meal in a place of education, Mary’s Meals attracts children to the classroom, where they can get an education that can help them on their journey out of poverty. The charity currently provides more than 1,035,000 children in 12 countries with a daily meal every school day.
If we can raise money for Mary’s Meals before 28 December 2015, the UK Government will double any donations that we make to Mary’s meals.
We have decided to hold a sponsored Fitness Fun challenge. Key Stage 1 will be doing Agility Jumps for their sponsorship, and Key Stage 2 will be doing burpees. The children will do the challenge during their PE lessons, supervised by their class Chaplain and Mr Feighan. We would like to raise £500 which would be increased to £1,000 with the Government increase, and the money needs to be in school by 11th December.
£12.20 feeds one child for a WHOLE YEAR, so imagine what we can do with £1,000!! How can you help – you can donate via the sponsor sheet, the Mary’s Meals website, or by putting money in the collecting boxes that we will be getting in school. On the Mary’s Meals website, the fundraising page is called St. Mary’s Fitness Fun.
We hope that you will be very generous as usual. We will be showing all the children in Assembly next week what Mary’s Meals is all about, and what the children have to do for the Fitness Fun challenge. You can look on the website www.marysmeals.org.uk and you can see a video on Youtube if you search for ‘Mary’s Meals Saving Grace’.
We are raising this money to start off Pope Francis’s special Year of Mercy, which begins on the 8th December. Don’t forget, any money, no matter how small, all adds up to a big help to poor children in other countries.

We spoke at Assembly in both Foundation/KS1 and KS2 to tell all the children and staff about the Fitness Fun sponsored challenge. We showed them the video "Saving Grace" which explains exactly how Mary's Meals can help poor children in other countries.
