St Mary’s have achieved the Gold School Games Mark Award for a 3rd Year

St Mary’s have achieved the Gold School Games Mark Award for a 3rd Year.

The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the Mark.

To achieve the Gold Award the school has to offer the pupils a wide ranges of sporting opportunities, from 2 hours physical education each week to making sure the majority of our pupils take part in extra-curricular sessions.

This year we have had 87% of our Key Stage Two pupils take part in Extra Curricular activity, either at lunch time or after school. This is

There are plans in place to try and surpass this total next year with new sports being added to the timetable for all our pupils to access. Look out for updates in early September.

Once our application was submitted to the School Games, we were then selected by Sheffield Hallam University to be externally verified for this award. After a successful meeting with the team from the University, they were mor than happy to award us the Gold Award for the 3rd consectutive year.

This is a great achievement for the school as only a smal number other primary schools in the Rochdale Borough have managed to gain the Gold Award this year.
