St. Mary's RC Langley

Mission Statement

"As the family of St. Mary’s, learning and growing in God’s love, joyfully, we pray, play and respect all, changing our world forever"

Our school will provide a Catholic Christian setting in which your child can grow, not only in knowledge and understanding, but also in faith.  We will begin this journey in September and within the first two weeks of starting school your child will receive ‘Our journey of Love, Faith and Growth’ panel which reflects stories from Jesus’ life.

Reception is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage and we work closely with the Nursery children and staff.  We have two Reception classes and from September 2014 we can accommodate up to 60 children.  The two Reception classes work alongside each other in a large, open plan classroom which leads onto an outdoor learning environment.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is divided into 7 learning and development areas;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
  • Communication and Language development.
  • Physical Development.

  • Literacy.
  • Mathematical Development.
  • Understanding of the World.
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

These are then sub-divided into 17 aspects which the children are assessed against at the end of the Reception year.   The Early Years Foundation Stage is very hands on and we enjoy as many practical experiences reflecting exciting themes and topics as possible.

Getting ready to start school.

Parents/Guardians will be invited to an intake meeting where you will be introduced to the Head Teacher and the Reception class teachers.  It is very important that you attend this meeting to listen to the relevant information about the transition period between your Childs setting and our school as well as day to day information and routines.  You will also be given some forms to fill in regarding contact information and it also a time for you to ask any questions to the members of staff.

During the summer term the Reception class teachers will also visit your child in their current nursery setting (if applicable) to introduce themselves and spend a little time talking with appropriate members of staff and playing with your child.

There will also be a transition session where your child will be invited to come and play in our classroom.  He/she will get the opportunity to look around the learning environment and meet other peers…it is a great opportunity for your child to participate in and eases any worries about starting school!

We are looking forward to you starting Reception at St. Mary’s R.C Primary School and we can’t wait to meet you in the Summer term for your visit.
